CHARLES II, first issue, silver shilling, issued 1660, without inner circles, crowned bust, (S.3308, ESC 1009). Superb condition with deep blue grey tone with golden highlights around legend, almost perfectly round with full flan, about as struck, extremely fine and possibly the finest known.

Ex. John B. Berge 20th May 1873, Baron Hastings, Sotheby's November 15, 1880, William Brice, Sotheby's June 15, 1881 (lot 97), Hyman Montagu, Sotheby's, 13-20th November 1896 (lot 746) and Dr. Carter collections (Purchased by Baldwins in 1950).
