MARCUS AURELIUS, (A.D. 161-180), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 163-4, (30.96 grams), obv. laureate head of Marcus Aurelius to right, around M AVREL ANTONINVS AVG ARMENIACS P M, rev. around TR P XVIII IMP II COS III, SC across the field, Mars standing to right holding shield and spear, (S.5001, RIC 861, C.838). On a large thick flan, with a brown patina, well centred and very fine, a scarce type.
