Trio to Motorcyclist: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 7245 Cpl C.H.Groocock R.E. on first medal, 7245 Sjt. C.H.Groocock R.E. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Very fine.

Cyril Henry Groocock, picture house manager, age 21, born at Headingly, Leeds, UK; Enl.25Oct1914 in Northern Signal Companies (Territorial) Leeds; Enl.10Dec1914 in Regular Army with rank given of Cpl Motorcyclist/Fitter; Emb.10Apr1915 for M.E.F. landing at Cape Helles, Gallipoli on 28Apr1915 (First Battle of Krithia); promoted 16Nov1917 to Acting Motorcyclist Sergeant; Arrested 19Apr1918 'whilst on active service out of bounds viz:- Being in a private house (a brothel)' - severely reprimanded; Emb.21Feb1919 for England. (In the early stages of WWI there was a shortage of motorcycles and riders and since Cyril was the son of a surgeon, and no doubt well-to-do, he probably supplied his own motorcycle. Service included with M.E.F. and Egypt and Palestine with E.E.F.)
