DENARIUS (STRUCK C. 41 A.D.?) Obv. TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG PM TR P IMP laureate head right Rev. DE GERMANIS two oblong shields crossed; two pairs of spears and two trumpets crossed in front of upright vexillum with flag (RIC-;C.-;Sear -). Very fine and extremely rare, perhaps only one other example known.
Unlisted in any of the major refernce collections, but see C.N.R. XIV,166,262, quoting an example in Florence. The reverse type is known from coins in the name of Drusus (eg RIC 74). This coin is struck on a slightly oval flan, which is characteristic of the mint of Caesarea in Cappadocia; however, only silver didrachms are known to have been issued from this mint.
