SICILY, Messana, (428-426 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.78 grams), obv. biga of mules driven to right by seated male charioteer above Nike flying to left, in exergue olive leaf, rev. MESSANIO[N] below hare bounding to right, (cf.S.850, Caltabiano 463 [obv.die 192, rev. die 184, 3 specimens known]). Dark attractive tone with uneven edge, otherwise very fine and very rare.
