Description

Syria, Roman Province of Syria, after Seleucid kingdom of Philip Philadelphos, dated by Caesarean era, issued in 28-7 B.C. (year 22), silver tetradrachm, (13.315 grams), Antioch mint, obv. head of Philip to right, with diademed, fillet border, rev. Zeus seated to left, on throne holding Nike, ANT (Antioch) monogram to left, BK (year 22) in exergue, legends left and right **[BAS]ILEW[S] [FI]LIPPOU [EP]IFANOUS [FILA]DELF[OU]*, (S.7215, cf.BMC 7, RPC 4139, Numismatic Chron. 1919, p.108 No.33). Fine and rare, only three coins known to RPC authors.

The Livia Hoard (this hoard was published by ANS in American Journal of Numismatics No.11 in 1999 [pp.1-12) contained another 5 pieces all from the same known two obverse and two reverse dies.
