Syria, Kingdom of, Antiochos VII, (138-129 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.854 grams), Antioch mint, obv. diademed head of Antiochos VII to right, fillet border, rev. Athena standing to left, holding Nike bearing a wreath in left hand, right hand on shield with Medusa head and holding spear, **BASILEWS ANTIOCOU*, and to left **EUER GETOU, to left monogram of DI over A, AI/O to right behind Athena, (S.7092, SNG Israel I (Spaer) -, cf.SMA 283-292, BMC -, Hunter -, Kessab Hoard 77 [Tresors du Levant, Henri Seyrig, 1973], [30.77, p.97, Pl.34]). Good very fine, extremely rare.
Ex Glendinings London, December 14, 1988 (lot 224). The right symbol appears to be struck over O or a **F*. In any event this right symbol does not appear in the major collections or SMA. A similar example was in our Sale 60 (lot 1926).
