Siculo-Punic, (c.350-320/315 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.912 grams), obv. wreathed head of Persephone to right wearing triple-pendant earring and necklace, three dolphins around, symbol of Tanit behind, rev. horse standing right before a palm tree, caduceus before horse, (S.6431 [p.595], Jenkins, SNR 56, 89 [same dies 031/R80], SNG Lockett 1039 [same dies], SNG Lloyd 1619, 1620 [same dies], Paris, De Luynes 1440 [same dies], Gulbenkian 368 [same dies]). Lightly toned with pale grey highlights, nearly extremely fine, attractive, and scarce.
Ex Triton III Auction Sale Nov. 30 - Dec. 1, 1999 (lot 341, illustrated). Jenkins records seventeen examples of this coin type from these dies. This piece is a new unlisted example.
