Siculo-Punic, 'Ziz' mint (probably Panormos), (c.400-380 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.974 grams), obv. charioteer driving galloping quadriga right around the meta (Ionic column) seen before holding kentron in right hand, reins in both, Nike flying above crowning the charioteer with an open wreath, crayfish in exergue, rev. head of Arethusa to left wearing double looped earrings and [necklace], large band of hair flows upward and backward in flame-like locks, [three dolphins swimming around, Punic legend '[SYS]' above, two grains ears behind, (cf.S.886 [p.93], Jenkins, SNR 50, 24/25 No.24A [same dies 05'/R22 an unrecorded die combination and type known by one other example No.24A illustrated Jenkins p.44, discussed p.41], BMC 5 [same obverse die], SNG Lloyd 1585 [same reverse die], Jameson 1902 [same reverse die]. Bright, nearly extremely fine, attractive, the second recorded piece, extremely rare.

Ex Triton III Auction Sale Nov. 30 - Dec. 1, 1999 (lot 338, illustrated). The obverse die of this tetradrachm is copied from the Katana tetradrachm signed by the artist Choirion (SNG ANS 1258), while the reverse is copied from a Syracusan tetradrachm (Tudeer 104).
