Australia, Australian states and world in a large box, a quantity (approx. 80) of interesting covers many c.1900-1930's to the MacKay/Baldry family, several from the Boer War from Colonel MacKay with one card c.1904 re-addressed 7 times and with 13 different cancellations, two covers with Frank Stamp from Governor of NSW, several from the Boer War, others from various countries mostly post-war, together with a large quantity of unsorted mostly Australian and States stamps on paper, almost all from early 20th century, also includes assorted receipts from India c.1904. Used. (many 100's).
James Alexander Kenneth MacKay (1859-1935) CB, OBE, soldier, author and politician, was a member of the Legislative Assembly, he raised several military groups including Ist Australian Horse in 1897, given command of the Australian Bushman Contingent to South Africa in 1900, Director General of the Australian Army Reserve from 1916 and retired as a Major General. His property at Wallendbeen NSW, to which some of this correspondence is addressed is still owned by members of the family. (see p.294-5 Australian Dictionary of Biography Vol 10).
