Syria, Kingdom of, Seleucus I, (312-280 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.946 grams), Seleucia ad Tigris mint, Newell dates 302-1 B.C., SNG Israel I (Spaer) dates c.295 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, Nike with wreath in outstretched hand, No to left and below throne **S*, to right **SELEUKOU*, in exergue **[B]ASILE[WS], (cf.S.6829, Newell ESM 19 [obv.A24, rev.P-], SNG Israel I (Spaer) 122, BMC 22). Very fine and very scarce.
Newell knew of 4 examples of this type from all dies, this example from a new reverse die.
