Italy, Lucanaia, Velia, (c. 350-320 B.C.), silver stater or nomos, (7.330 grams), Period VI, obv. helmeted head of Athena to left, wearing crested Phrygian helmet, ornamented with centaur, reversed K C monogram behind, die crack on mouth, rev. lion standing to left, devouring piece of meat between fore-paws, **UELHTWN in exergue, A above lion, KE monogram below lion, (cf.S.456 [£250], Williams 369 [same dies, O.187/R.259], SNG Ash 1273). Very fine, and a scarce die combination.
