Description

Ten shillings, Collins/Allen (1913) M 000091 (R.1a) presentation note to J Matthews, 5th July 1913 with letter. The note autographed on the back by Andrew Fisher the Prime Minister at the time, who brought about the first issue of Commonwealth Australian Currency. It is believed to be the only banknote so signed by Fisher and as such represents a unique momento of our outstanding first issue banknotes. A superb example without any pinhole or folds, virtually uncirculated and probably the finest known

Ex Spink Australia Sale 14 (lot 152). The recent reported sale of note number 1 (M 000001) by Monetarium for one million dollars (SMH Tuesday 1 Feb 2000, p.3) adds a new dramatic perspective to the valuation of this note.
