Territory of New Guinea, George VI, Royal Mint pattern or trial shilling, obverse only, undated but prepared in 1937 in anticipation of a coinage, struck in silver, obverse only, reverse uniface officialy machined off (4.49 grams) edge finely straight grained (or milled). Nearly FDC and probably unique.
Ex Spink Noble Sale 37 (lot 877) and previously in the A.H.F. Baldwin Collection, probably obtained from Sir Robert Johnson, the Deputy Master of the Mint. The Royal Mint has two dies from punch A, dated August 1937 (Mira, W.J.D. from Cowrie to. Kina, p.14).
