Pompey the Great, (c.46-5 B.C.), silver denarius, Spanish (Corduba) mint, (3.07 grams), obv. Pompey bare head to right, CN. MAGN before, IMP behind, rev. Cnaeus Pompey between two females, Baetica and Tarraco, the latter kneels, M. MINAT/SABI in exergue, (cf.S.338 [£1500], Cr.470/1b, Syd.1037, C. Pompey the Great 9a [£1200]). Very fine portrait, probably has been mounted having edge filed in one place and roughness near on edge, otherwise good fine and very rare.

Ex Glendining's London, 10 July 1985 (lot 141). The issue was struck by Cnaeus Pompey son of Pompey the Great. Only 5 obverse dies was used for the obverse of all coin types in this group as calculated by Crawford.
