Description

Julius Caesar, (c.46-5 B.C.), silver denarius, Spanish mint, (3.13 grams), obv. Venus diademed head to left, lituus before, sceptre behind, rev. Gaulish captive and Gallia captive seated beneath trophy, CAESAR in exergue, (cf.S.357 [£150], Cr.468/2, Syd.1015, C. Julius Caesar 14 [£150]). Banker's mark of cheek, otherwise fine and rare.

Ex Glendining's London, 19 March 1974 (lot 395 part). Less than 30 dies was used for the obverse of this coin type as calculated by Crawford.
