Faustus Cornelia Sulla, (c.56 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.35 grams), obv. Diana diademed draped bust to right, crescent above, lituus behind, rev. Sulla seated to left, Bocchus king of Maurentania kneels before, Jugurtha, king of Numidia kneels behind, above on right [F]ELIX, (S.302 [£275], Cr.426/1, Syd.879, B.Cornelia 59 [£120]). Ragged edge with slight chipping, dark grey patina, otherwise very fine and very rare.
Ex W. Woolmer Collection May 29, 1980. The moneyer was the son of the dictator Sulla and this type is in honour of his father. The reverse represents one of the earliest and most remarkable events in the life of Sulla. Less than 30 obverse dies were used by this moneyer for this type as determined by Crawford.
