Group of Six: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star (8th Army); Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal; Rats of Tobruk Association Medal. WX6238 R.J. Ward. Mounted for wear. Last medal engraved, others impressed. N.Cor. Very fine.

With attestation form and medical reports (photocopies); two braille pocket watches named engraved to recipient; pocket watch named engraved to his father R. Ward for winning an 18 mile foot race in 1895; four ex-service lapel badges; R.J. (Jimmy) Ward was an original elistment into the 2/28th Bn. A.I.F. He was the Pioneer Pt.Sergeant for the Bn. During the Battle of Ruin Ridge he was Wounded and captured by the Germans. He spent some time in a Hospital in Italy as a POW and while there he was blinded by the Germans. He was repatriated back to Australia for the exchange of some wounded German POWs. After the War he was president of the Blind soldiers Association for 30 years.
