Madras Presidency, European Style Coinages, Second Issue, 1808, silver quarter pagoda, obv. Gopuram of a temple with 9 stars each side, around in English QUARTER PAGODA, in letters with stops, large buckled garter below, partly filled, rev. deity Vishnu standing surrounded by dotted circles, ribbon ending in star, in native text 'half a flower (or star) pagoda', without dots continuing under legs of Vishnu, (Pr.176, KM.352.2). Good Very fine and scarce.
