Lot 873

Sale 62 · Important Australian & World Coins & Banknotes

Description

Danish India, Tranquebar, Christian IV, (1620-1648), lead cash (kas), c.1638, obv. DA/NISB/ORG, rev. WAL/DE/[B]VE, (Gray 9, KM.18). Off centred, otherwise very fine and very rare.

Possibly it refers to the ship's name that was Valby, a small yacht purchased by Gov. Pessart for around 1500 pagodas, that arrived around 1638. Jensen also suggests it may refer to the Danish place name Valby.
