Description

Danish India, Tranquebar, Christian IV, (1620-1648), lead cash (kas), c.1625, obv. DAN/NISB/[ORG], rev. IVP/TER, (Gray 4, KM.9). Very fine and rare.

The Jupiter was the ship's name. It left Copenhagen in 1623 and arrived in Tranquebar in on the 13th March 1624, it was wrecked off Bengal in 1625, 44 members of the crew were drowned. This coin is one of the earliest issues for Danish India. This and the following lots utilise the work of John C.F.
