Description
Shah Jahan I, (A.H. 1037-1068, A.D.1628-1658), round Gold mohur, (11.016 grams), struck at Kambayat (Cambay) mint, issued A.H. 1069, (A.D. 1658-9), Regnal Year 32, obv. Kalima, square dotted borders with ornamental quatrefoil corners, margins as usual, date 1069 in left margin, rev. Shah Jahan within dotted square with ornamental quatrefoil corners, partial mint on left margin, (cf.IMC 852, cf.Nagpur 526, KM.260.10). Good very fine and very rare, the posthumous date 1069 most unusual although previously reported.
Shah Jahan was deposed on 17th September 1068, the year 1069 commenced on September 29th and it appears that the news of the deposition arrived some time after September 29th before dies could be altered. He not die until 26th July 1076.
