He handled his party admirably, leading them coolly under heavy shell fire. He was a very great help to his officers and showed skill and attention to the wounded.' Bar to MM: LG. 17Nov1917. Originally recommended for D.C.M. but altered to above. 'On the night of 14th/15th May 1917, a number of wounded were lying unattended to in the neighbourhood of Noreuil. In spite of a heavy barrage of H.E. and gas shells, this N.C.O., with the greatest coolness and courage, went to their help. Throughout he was subjected to a continuous shower of shells and his gallant conduct was certainly a big factor in the saving of lives of those whom he assisted.
