MC: C.G. 27 August 1917:'This officer was in command of 'C' Coy and showed great dash and leadership, when moving his Coy., to occupy Grevillers Trench on the night 12th/13th. He also led a patrol through Loupart Wood and was able to report the wood clear of enemy quite an hour before the King's Own on our left came through it. His Company later occupied the outpost line on the eastern side of the village of Grevillers. This position was very exposed to enemy fire and he exhibited great coolness and courage by continually moving about amongst his posts, encouraging his men by cheery words and example, though M.G. fire was very intense and also T.M.s continually played along his front, and when one of his men was killed while on daylight patrol on the 15th he immediately after dark went out himself and brought in the body. This exhibition of courage did a very deal of good in bucking up the men and keeping them in good heart'. With additional research.
