Description

Great Britain, Prisoner of War, WWII issue No.12 P.O.W. Camp, (Elmfield), three pence, No. A 143840, back shows use from 1943-5, another sixpence No.798831, also back shows use from 1943- 1945, (Campbell 5015b, 5016a). Fine - very fine and scarce. (2)

The issue is similar in design to all the POW notes circulating in the camps of Great Britain and each note had stamped onto it the camp of issue. The back of the note had eight circles and every three months all notes were withdrawn from circulation and stamped with the current date in one of the circles and then placed back into circulation. The notes were destroyed when all eight circles had been stamped.
