BIRMINGHAM, Charles Pye, halfpenny 1797, cypher, reverse Moneta (D&H.223). Lacquered otherwise good extremely fine and very rare, only 36 struck.

Ex Farnell (lot 46) Collection Glendining's 28 June 1989 (lot 411) and Jean Elsen (Beehive Collection) Sale 55 (lot 2600). Pye published the most authorative contemporary work on eighteenth century tokens. The Moneta design was adopted by Mathew Young and W.J. Taylor for later private tokens.
