Description

Eddystone Lighthouse, 1757, medal or pass worn by workmen in constructing the new lighthouse under direction of John Smeaton in order to avoid being press-ganged, while on shore, in silver (43.5mm; 18.01 grams) (M.I.681/398). Attractively toned, nearly extremely fine and extremely rare, only seven or eight known of an original issue of 24 to 36, certainly one of the most interesting and exciting of all passes.
