Stratford-on-Avon, Shakespeare Jubilee 1769 in silver (32mm) by Westwood (D&W.39/410; M.5725; BHM.136) (illustrated). David Garrick on Sim's token (D&H.478; M.5726). Garrick Theatre, 1830, in brass (31mm) W&C (illustrated). Fine or better, the first rare. (3)
Ex CMW Ltd, Sale 16 October 1979 (lot 372). Re the first, the Gentleman's Magazine of 1769 carries a letter from a correspondent attending the Festival in which he states that 'my dress consisted of ... a silver medal of Shakespeare, pendant from a sky blue ribbon round my neck.'
