Ghaznavids, Mahmud b. Sebukt-egin as Yemin al-dawla, (A.H. 388-421) (A.D. 998-1030), gold dinar, Ghazna mint, struck in pale gold, A.H. 416 = A.D. 1025-1026, (A.1607). Weak in places, otherwise very fine and rare.

The Ghaznavids were of Turkish extraction and initially governors for the Saminids in and around Ghazna in Afghanistan. They became independent in A.H. 389 and survived until A.H. 582 (A.D. 1186). Ghaznavid coinage is of a great variety and includes issues of multiple dirhams (see below).
