Italy, Medieval Sicily issues from Messina mint, William I (1154-1168), AE follis fraction, obv. REX/W around Kufic script, rev. bust of Virgin and child, (Biaggi 1226), William II (1166-1189), dirhem fraction, cross in centre of reverse, Kufic script both sides, (Biaggi 1230), half follis obv. in Latin with REX W/SCoS in centre, rev. in Kufic, (Biaggi 1233), Tancred I (1189-1194), billon, quarter of a tercenario, (Biaggi 1235). Mostly very fine and all rare. (4)
These coins of these three rulers show strong influence to both Arab and other (Norman) Crusader Latin Christian coins.
