Cilicia, Aegae, (120-83/77 B.C.), AE 22, (7.32 grams), obv. veiled and turreted bust to right of Tyche city goddess, border of dots, rev. bridled horse's head to left, monogram HAP to right, above **AIGEAIWN/ THS IERAS/KAI /[A]UTONOMOU*, (S.5515, Weber Collection 7496 [This Coin, p.618, Pl.269], BMC 2 [p.20, Pl.III, 20], H.Bloesch 'Hellenistic Coins of Aegeae' ANS Museum Notes 27 No.127 [This Coin], SNG Von Aulock 5445). Black patina, very fine, rare.

Ex. Sir Hermann Weber Collection and published by Spink & Son, 1922 'The Weber Collection', illustrated (No.7496), stated in catalogue as acquired in Constantinople in 1897; then sold to Virgil Brand c.1923 who passed it to his niece Jane Brand Allen, sold Sotheby's London October 25, 1984 (lot 331 part). Bloesch only records 8 other coins, all are in public collections, of this type.
