Italy, Lucania, Poseidonia, (c.480-450 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.48 grams), obv. Poseidon, naked but for chlamys over shoulder, advancing brandishing trident, **POM[ES] before, rev. bull walking to left, all within shallow incuse square, above **EMOP (retrograde), (cf. S.424, SNG Cop.1278-9, SNG ANS 652). Hammered on edge, edge porosity and flaking, otherwise good fine, and very scarce.
The use of reversed legends appears on a number of these coins from this city.
