Description
Augustus, (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), silver denarius, Uncertain mint, issued after 27 B.C., (3.84 grams), obv. bare head of Augustus to right, rev. AVGVSTVS below, capricorn to right, holding globe attached to rudder and bearing cornucopia, (cf.S.477, RIC 547a, C.21, BMC 305). Solder mounted on the obverse, stain on part of reverse, otherwise very fine and rare.
Ex. Glendining's London, July 9, 1980 (lot 652 part). The capricorn was the horoscopic sign of Augustus's conception.
