Description
Palestine, Judaea, Mattathias Antigonus, (40-37 B.C.), copper multiple (four) prutah, (6.72 grams), obv. ivy wreath tied at top with inscription, BACI**L / AVTIG*, in two lines, rev. single cornucopiae with Paleo-Hebrew script around, (S.6104, H.482 [36], AJC V4). Has been cleaned, with full reading of Greek inscription, otherwise nearly very fine and a rare.
Coins of this Jewish ruler are usually poorly preserved and rarely have a legible legend, this one being much more interesting because of the near complete legend.
