Denarius (struck c. 42-40 B.C.) Obv. MAG PIVS IMP ITER bare head of Pompey the Great right between jug and lituus Rev. Neptune standing left, foot on prow between the two Catanaean brothers each bearing a parent on their shoulders, PRAEF above, CLAS ET ORAE/MARIT EX S C in exergue (Craw.511/3a;Syd.1344;Sear 345). Some weakly struck parts, otherwise good very fine.
This coin was struck after his victory over Salvidienus and relates to his acclamation as the 'Son of Neptune'; the reference to the Catanaean brothers may indicate that the issue was struck at Catana.
