M.I.D. L.G 11 June 1942: 'For outstanding zeal, patience and cheerfulness and for setting an example of wholehearted devotion to duty. On the night of 19/20 November, 1941 this officer, attached to HMS BEEHIVE (Norwich sub command) who was First Lieutenant of HM MGB67, behaved with admirable coolness and efficiency and was an example to the men in controlling the fire aft, and letting go the port depth charge when S.41 was attacked with depth charges. Extract of report from Coastal Forces - 19 November 1941. Three MGB's were ordered to sea as a result of reports of activity by German E.Boats. They set out for the Hook of Holland in a calm sea, but one had to return to harbour because of engine defects. At 0200 on 20th they reached their position and waited. At 0445 they heard the enemy approaching and closed to intercept. They found five S.Boats, and in a close action suffered no serious damage themselves, but sank one enemy, badly damaged two and inflicted light damage on the other two. Three of the damaged enemy craft were sunk by the RAF on their return to harbour.'
