GERMANY, Empire, Empress Auguste Victoria Red Cross medal, in silver (34mm), 1914, by Grunthal (Berlin). Toned very fine and rare.
This medal was awarded as a commemorative symbol for Red Cross nurses and medics who made outstanding contributions to the care of the wounded. Employees of the Red Cross's voluntary columns were also awarded. The award was donated by Empress Auguste Victoria who was the highest protector of the Red Cross. The medal was issued with or without a suspension ring.
