Description
Anniversary of Death of Matthew Boulton, 1819, bronzed medal in copper, by G.F. Pidgeon, 63mm, (100.2 grams), obv. bust of Boulton to right, rev. legend arranged in four lines within wreath, (Pollard [p.316-8], Eimer 1114, BHM 976, Fearon 260.4 [note]). Red-brown patination, good extremely fine,
Ex. Bonhams auctions, London. Pollard discusses this issue and believes that it is not a work started by Kuchler (as believed by many authorities), which was finished by Pidgeon, but only the work by Pidgeon which was addressed in a letter to him in 1812 as a new die.
