Description
Marriage of the Prince of Wales/Visit of Queen to Frogmore, mule of a silver proof-like medal, by C.H. Kuchler, 48mm, (66.2 grams), 1795, obv. jugate busts of Prince of Wales and Princess Caroline, rev. crossed oak sprays, FROGMORE / May 19th/ 1795, dated 1795, (Pollard 9 (ii) [p.279-281], Eimer 865 note, BHM 401, cf.Fearon 246.1). Purple and blue patina, FDC, and very rare.
Ex. A.H. Baldwin, London. The reverse records the Royal Visit on the Queen's birthday. A specimen like this in silver is in the British Museum. Perhaps a trial piece, because of the error in the obverse legend. The reverse die is mentioned in the Account (p.263) under 10 May 1795, in association with an unfinished obverse die of the king.
