Buckland, Sir Thomas KY., cr 1935; Chairman, Pitt Son & Badgery Ltd and United Insurance Co. Ltd.; Director, Permanent Trustee Co. Ltd; President of the Buckland COnvalescent Hospital, Springwood; b. 1 Aug. 1848; s. of John Buckland and Martha Smith ; m. 1890, Mary Kirkpatrick (d. 1937); two s. fourd. Educ.: Rocky Hill House Academy, Maidstone. Commenced business in Sydney; went to Gympie, Queensland, on discovery of gold, and took up gold minng, 1867; later joined Bank of New Xouth Wales in Sydney as assayer; resigned from bank in 1872 and managed several gold mines; returned to England in 1890 to live, but in 1892 was again back in Australia; was representative and attorney of Cobar Gold Mines; in early `70's bought Cardigan cattle station in North Queensland, St Annes and Yacamunda stations; President Bank of New South Wales, 1922-37, recreation: gold.
