USA, Knights of Pythias, sword by E.A.Armstrong, Detroit, Mich., multi decorated blade (approx 71cm), with name of recipient on blade, "C.C.Taylor", with double Phoenix crossguard with letters U R (Uniformed Rank), the reverse has the letters, "FCB" (Friendship, Charity and Benevolence), the handle is wire wrapped leather covered timber and the pommel is a knight's head, with steel scabbard with brass fittings including three suspension rings. Blade with some small edge nicks and discoloration and scabbard also with some discolouration, otherwise fine.
The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal organization and secret society founded in Washington, DC, USA on 19 February 1864. It was the first fraternal organization to receive a charter under an act of the United States Congress. Early in the groups history a ceremonial sword was given to inductees.
