Description
Gulbarga Sultanate (Bahmanis of the Deccan), Taj-ud-din Firuz Shah, (A.H. 800-825, A.D. 1397-1422), gold tanka, (11.1 grams), year A.H. 805, (cf.Rajgor 2575). Nearly uncirculated and excessively rare.
Rajgor records a heavy tanka at 12.6 grams for A.H.800, but this coin shows that a regular weight tanka of 11.0 grams occurs soon into his reign and well before the following ruler. Firoz obviously experimented with the heavy tanka early in his reign but soon reverted back to the regular weight tanka and this standard was continued by Ahmad Shah I his successor.
