Union Bank of Australia, Third of Exchange No.501 issued at Launceston 26th April 1848 for sixty three pounds two shillings and twopence to order of William D. Grubb Esq.; another Third of Exchange No.6194 issued at Launceston 20th April 1861 for forty eight pounds seventeen shillings and sixpence to the order of W. D. Grubb Esq., both endorsed on reverse and signed by W. D. Grubb. (2)

William Dawson Grubb (1817-1879) was born in London in 1817. He arrived in Van Diemen's Land in March 1832 with his sister, Maria Susanna and her husband, Henry Reed. He then returned to England to complete his studies and read law. While there he married Marianne Beaumont and returned to Launcestion in Van Diemen's Land in 1842 and was subsequently admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court and set up a legal practice with Henry Jennings until Jennings moved to Melbourne, Victoria and Grubb continued the practice on his own. Grubb also was involved in several business ventures in timber and mining although several of these were unsuccessful. He also represented Tamar in the Legislative Council from 1869 until he died at age 62 on 8 February 1879.
