USA, Knights of Pythias, sword by E.A.Armstrong, Detroit, Mich., multi decorated blade (approx 71cm), with name of recipient on blade, "C.C.Taylor", with double Phoenix crossguard with letters U R (Uniformed Rank), the reverse has the letters, "FCB" (Friendship, Charity and Benevolence), the handle is wire wrapped leather covered timber and the pommel is a knight's head, with steel scabbard with brass fittings including three suspension rings.
The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal organization and secret society founded in Washington, DC, USA on 19 February 1864. It was the first fraternal organization to receive a charter under an act of the United States Congress. Early in the groups history a ceremonial sword was given to inductees.
