Joseph Lodge Smith, grocer, age 19, born at Rushcutter Bay, Sydney, NSW; Enl.23Jul1915 at Liverpool, NSW, in 45Bn; Emb.14Oct1915 ; trf to 13Bn 06Mar1916; various convictions and finally sentenced to death for desertion, willful neglect of government property and other offences, commuted to 2 years 10May1917 and placed in military prison in France; unexpired portion of sentence suspended 18Jun1918; RTA 01May1919; Disch.01Jul1919.
