Ancient British, North Thames Region, Late Whaddon Chase, Uninscribed coins, Big Pellet type, (c.55-45 B.C.), gold stater, (5.83 g), obv. virtually blank with traces of crossed wreaths, rev. horse to right, short dashes for mane, winged object and pellets above, large pellet below, (S.33, ABC 2338, Van A 1498, NT 5-6, BMC 344, M 140).

Found near Clacton, Essex. (Trinovantian territory).

This is a superb specimen of the very rare Big Pellet type of Late Whaddon Chase gold stater that displays a fantastic rendering of the galloping horse with a winged symbol hovering above. The good quality of the gold and heavy weight indicates that it is an early issue.
