Morrison-Knudsen & Downer, c1950s, check or badge in brass (44mm), incuse lettering, numbered '360', pin-back (G.-; TMR.-). Very fine and rare.

Presumably relating to a contract for the Rimutaka Tunnel, opened in 1955, a railway tunnel through the Rimutaka Ranges, between Maymorn, near Upper Hutt, and Featherston, on the Wairarapa Line. A contract for completing the tunnel was let to a consortium of Morrison Knudsen Inc. and Downer and Company on 7 May 1951. The work commenced at the west end in July 1951 and at the east end in August. The contract was expected to be completed in four years, but was completed in May 1954.
