Wellington, April 18. The closing of nominations for officers of the New Zealand Rugby Union resulted in the presidency going unopposed to Mr L.V.Carmine, South Auckland, who was nominated by the Auckland, King Country, and Wanganui unions. The new president will succeed Mr M.McKenzie Marlborough, when the election of officers is held at the annual meeting in Wellington on May 2. There are many nominees for other positions of the union. Two vice-presidents are required and there are eight candidates. (Courtesy - National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past, from the 'Press', 19 April 1940).
