The following courtesy National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past, from The Press, 19 October 1909:
"GORDON HIGHLANDERS' TROPHY, WON BY NEW ZEALAND.
As a set-off to their lee-way in the Empire Match, the New Zealand team won the Gordon Highlanders' Trophy, securing five hits to South Australia's three. Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria scored two each. This trophy was presented by the Gordon Highlanders to commemorate the good fellowship that existed between that regiment and the colonies during the Boer War. It was first fired for last year, and won by Victoria."
