The following Courtesy National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past - from the 'Auckland Star' 3 May 1893:
"......At the conclusion the Mayor, after some suitable remarks, presented a gold medal to Mr Fred. Spraggon, the winner of the recent ten-mile race. The medal was subscribed for by Colonel Goring and several other gentlemen......"
